Ingredients

2 cups of all-purpose flour –

  • The foundation of our rolls. Make sure to measure it correctly for the perfect texture.

2 teaspoons of baking powder –

  • This acts as our leavening agent giving the rolls their fluffiness without yeast.

1 teaspoon of sugar –

  • A touch of sweetness to balance the flavor.

1/2 teaspoon of salt –

  • Enhances the overall taste.

3/4 cup of milk (whole or 2%) –

  • Provides moisture and helps create a tender crumb.

2 tablespoons of butter (melted) –

  • Adds richness and a soft texture.

Optional add-ins:

  • A pinch of garlic powder chopped fresh herbs, or shredded cheese for a flavorful twist.
  • Quick Tips for Ingredients
  • Room Temperature Ingredients: Using room-temperature milk and butter helps the dough come together smoothly.
  • Fresh Baking Powder: Double-check that your baking powder is fresh for the best rise—expired baking powder won’t do the trick.

Alternative Options:

  • For a dairy-free version swap the milk with unsweetened almond milk and use vegan butter or coconut oil.
  • Want a richer flavor? Try substituting buttermilk for regular milk.

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures it’s hot and ready to bake your rolls perfectly. Line a baking tray with parchment paper or lightly grease it with butter or oil.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Use a whisk or fork to evenly distribute the ingredients and break up any lumps.

Incorporate the Wet Ingredients

  • Slowly pour in the milk and melted butter while stirring with a wooden spoon or spatula. Mix until the dough comes together. It should be soft but not sticky. If it’s too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until manageable.

Knead the Dough (Gently!)

  • Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead gently for about 1-2 minutes, just until the dough is smooth. Avoid over-kneading as it can make the rolls dense.

Shape the Rolls

  • Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball using your hands, applying gentle pressure to create smooth, round shapes.

Place on Baking Tray

  • Arrange the dough balls on the prepared baking tray, leaving about an inch of space between them to allow for spreading.

Bake to Perfection

  • Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown on top.

Brush with Butter

  • For extra flavor and a beautiful sheen, brush the warm rolls with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven.
